Privacy Policy
Last updated: 5 August 2026
Beta notice. Camzone is currently a closed beta, available by invitation only. Some features shown are demonstrations and are not operational — in particular, payments, identity checks and accreditation are not verified. However, the personal information you enter into your profile is genuinely stored and processed, and this policy applies to it in full.
1. Who we are
Camzone is a peer-to-peer platform for UK film and television camera crew, covering crew discovery, equipment dry hire, a buy and sell marketplace, role-based forums and direct messaging.
The data controller for the personal information described in this policy is S.Burgess & L.Burrows Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 08037317, which operates Camzone.
Registered office: 126 West Cross Lane, Swansea SA3 5NG, United Kingdom.
If you have any questions about this policy, or wish to exercise any of your rights, contact steve.burgess@mac.com.
2. What information we collect
Information you give us when you create an account and profile:
- Name and contact details, including email address and telephone number
- Your crew role or roles (for example DOP, Focus Puller, 1st AC, DIT, Drone Operator)
- Outward postcode and region, used to show your general working area and to sort search results by distance
- Credentials and affiliations you choose to declare, such as professional body memberships or a diary service or agent
- Profile photograph, biography, credits and career history, where you choose to provide them
- Details of equipment you list for dry hire, and items you list for sale or as wanted
Information generated through your use of the platform:
- Messages you send to and receive from other members
- Posts you make in forum channels
- Ratings and written feedback you give to other members, and ratings and feedback other members give to you
- Hire enquiries, bookings and insurance acknowledgements
- Basic technical information such as IP address, browser type and device, and records of when you log in
We do not knowingly collect special category data (such as health information or ethnicity), and you should not enter it into free-text fields such as your biography.
3. Why we process your information, and our lawful basis
| What we do | Why | Lawful basis |
|---|---|---|
| Create and maintain your account and profile | To provide the service you signed up for | Performance of a contract |
| Display your profile to other members | So crew and hirers can find you — this is the core purpose of the platform | Performance of a contract |
| Enable messaging, forums, hire listings and marketplace listings | To provide the features of the service | Performance of a contract |
| Operate the ratings system | To maintain a trustworthy record of interactions between members | Legitimate interests — platform trust and safety |
| Send service emails, including trial reminders and account notices | To keep you informed about your account | Performance of a contract |
| Keep the platform secure and investigate misuse | To protect members and the service | Legitimate interests |
| Send marketing or newsletter emails | To tell you about the service | Consent — you can withdraw at any time |
Your profile is intended to be seen by other members. Please only enter information you are content to share professionally.
4. Free trial and account deactivation
New accounts include a two-month free trial. We do not ask for card details up front, so nothing will be charged automatically and no payment will be taken without you actively choosing to subscribe.
If you reach the end of your trial and do not subscribe, your account is deactivated, not deleted. This means:
- Your profile is hidden from search and from public view
- Your hire listings and marketplace listings are unpublished
- Messaging and forum posting are disabled
- Your data remains intact. You can log back in at any time, and subscribing restores your profile exactly as you left it
5. How long we keep your information
- Active accounts: for as long as your account remains open.
- Deactivated and dormant accounts: we keep your data so you can return, but not indefinitely. After 24 months of inactivity we will email you a warning, and if you do not log in we will permanently delete the account.
- Deleted accounts: when you delete your account, your profile, listings and personal details are removed.
Two things survive account deletion, and we want to be clear about them:
Messages. A conversation belongs to both people in it. If you leave, the other member keeps their copy of your exchange. Your name is replaced with a neutral label and your profile link is removed.
Ratings you gave to other members. A rating is a record of a working interaction, not solely your property, and removing it would unfairly damage the reputation of the person you rated. Your ratings of others remain on their profiles, shown anonymously and detached from your account.
Ratings you received are deleted along with your account. We may retain a limited record of email address or telephone number to detect members who delete and re-register in order to escape negative feedback.
6. Who we share your information with
We do not sell your personal information.
- Other members see your public profile, your listings, your forum posts and any messages you send them.
- Service providers who help us run the platform — for example hosting, email delivery and, once live, payment processing — process data on our instructions only.
- Payments are made off-platform. Where you arrange a hire or a sale with another member, any payment and any personal details you exchange directly with them are outside our control and are a matter between you and the other party.
- We may disclose information where required by law.
Where information is transferred outside the UK, we take steps to ensure an appropriate level of protection is in place.
7. Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- Access a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- Have inaccurate information corrected
- Have your information deleted
- Restrict or object to certain processing
- Receive your information in a portable format
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
You can do two of these yourself, at any time, from your account settings: download a copy of your data, and delete your account. For anything else, contact steve.burgess@mac.com. We will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
8. Cookies
We use only cookies that are necessary for the site to work, including keeping you signed in. We do not currently use analytics or advertising cookies. If that changes, we will ask for your consent first.
9. Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information. No online service can be completely secure, and you are responsible for keeping your password confidential.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the platform develops, particularly as it moves out of beta. Where changes are significant we will notify you by email or through the site.
